Hundreds more of 3,000-year rice grains were discovered

On the morning of May 26, hundreds of grains of burnt rice on the soil floor dating back 3,000 years continue to be found by the excavation team at Thanh Den relic site (Me Linh, Hanoi).

All of this burnt rice (turned into coal) was found at a depth of 1.2 meters in the excavation pit No. 3, Thanh Den relic site. According to Master Bui Huu Tien (University of Social Sciences and Humanities - National University of Hanoi), members of archaeological delegation, after treating 6 buckets of land, the delegation obtained a lot of burnt rice seeds.

In addition, the excavation team also discovered some pieces of rice husk, many animal bones and some pieces of pottery. However, among the relics discovered, there is no grain (germination grain).

According to the archaeological team members, for more than a month in the excavation process at 3 holes in Thanh Den relic, the group has discovered many black soil pits (kitchen garbage pits) located in Dong Dau cultural layer (3,000- 3,5000 years ago). There are many pieces of animal bones, burnt rice and grain grains in the pits . Among the grains, only 10 seeds germinate and are cultivated and cared for at the Agricultural Genetics Institute.

Four well-developed seeds into young rice were transplanted on May 25 to continue monitoring. The husks of these plants have been collected and are expected to be brought abroad to date.
