Hyena has appeared in ... Arctic in the last Ice Age

Archaeologists have discovered many biotic fossils in the Arctic. However, fossilized fossil was first discovered.
The Arctic fossils are believed to be the hyenas of two teeth dating from 850,000 to 1.4 million years old.
"For me, it is quite remarkable that they have lived in the far north ," said co-researcher, paleontologist Grant Zazula.
The teeth found in a remote area can only be reached by boarding a plane to the local village, then traveling down the river or by helicopter.
The new hyena Chasmaporthetes has the ability to live on open ground and have slender limbs.
The land discovered the hyena fossils despite being very cold, but never covered in glaciers because it was too dry. The hyenas are scientifically named Chasmaporthetes, which have the ability to live on open ground and have slender limbs, like razor-sharp cheetahs and teeth.
"These hyenas have suffered for several months during the winter almost completely dark and extremely cold conditions. The climate in the Ice Age shows that it is about 6 degrees Celsius cooler than it is today , " researcher Zazula information.
Researchers previously suspected that hyenas might have lived in Alaska or Yukon at some point because they had to go through the Bering Land Bridge to travel from Asia to North America.
The fossil teeth were originally discovered during expeditions to the Old Crow River in the 1970s. They were then stored in the Canadian Museum's natural collections along with about 50,000 other fossils. until paleontologist, Jack Tseng, found decades of notes on specimens in the Swedish Museum of Natural History.
"The Yukon fossil represents one of the last records of this species. We estimate the Chasmaporthetes species in North America died between 500,000 and 1 million years ago," study author Tseng said.
"There are a number of other ice age hyenas in Europe, Africa and Asia, but other species are never brave enough to cross the Arctic into North America.
Today, the Arctic is a very fragile ecosystem and we have relatively few large mammals. This 1-million-year-old fossil discovery helps us paint a picture of how the mammalian communities in the North and North America have changed dramatically in a very short time , ' said Zazula. added.
