I have worked with many Vietnamese scientists, but this is the first time I have been to Vietnam and came to attend an international conference on the first nano physics held here, rather than going. travel.

What I am most impressed here is that there are quite a lot of people who speak German, not just scientists but many others. I see Vietnamese people are very kind and dynamic. As far as I know, your country is on the way of developing very well and I hope Vietnam will grow even more!

* With what is known and exposed, how do you assess the science-technology background of Vietnam in general and the physics industry in particular?

- Actually, I do not have the conditions to find out specifically about Vietnam's science and technology. With nano physics, this is a new science, there are many applications in life. At this seminar, I saw many Vietnamese scientists, especially young scientists interested in this field. Therefore, I believe that nano-physics will develop in Vietnam in the future.

* What are your comments on young Vietnamese scientists at this conference?

- Through contact and exchange of Vietnamese young scientists, I see many of them are very capable. I hope that in the coming time, I will have more contact and will find good people to work as partners. If conditions permit, I would like to visit some universities and scientific research institutions in Vietnam.

As far as I know, there are no really good centers and laboratories in Vietnam and are qualified for scientists to work. This is the limitation of basic science research as well as applied science. Therefore, in my opinion, in order to have a developed science and technology, Vietnam should focus on investing more in research centers and rooms with the best conditions, reaching national standards. sacrifice. At that time, young Vietnamese scientists will have conditions to research and develop their capabilities right in their own country.

* Will the professor intend to accept Vietnamese students?

- My laboratory consists of scientists from 60 different countries around the world working together. Our requirements, in addition to foreign languages ​​to communicate, must have a very good specialized knowledge to work, especially independent work.

If Vietnamese students meet these requirements, we are ready to receive work and research. Not only our lab, but also Vietnamese students can come to work at any center or laboratory in the world.

* Do you think after this conference, I will return to visit and work in Vietnam soon?

- That I'm not sure. Because now I have a lot of work to do, especially in 2008. However, if conditions permit and work arrangements, I will return to this place. In my opinion, Hanoi is a very beautiful and friendly city.
