IAEA trained on nuclear power safety in Vietnam

Experts from the International Energy Agency (IAEA) came to Vietnam to attend a national training course on the establishment of a safety management and cultural system for nuclear power programs.

The training is one of the activities within the framework of the Technical Cooperation Project between the Department of Atomic Energy of Vietnam and the IAEA on "Development of nuclear power infrastructure" in Vietnam.

International experts shared their experiences on the requirements of integrated management systems and aspects of safety culture in the design, construction and operation of nuclear power plants. .

Mr. Jeannot P. Boogaard, technical expert of management systems under IAEA, said that it is very important to set up an integrated management system and a safe culture for the Nuclear Power Program in Vietnam. suitable point for Vietnam to start training human resources for nuclear field.

Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan, Deputy Director of Vietnam Atomic Energy Department said, this is the first time Vietnam has access to an integrated management system. When applied to Vietnam, it will help to link individual issues from human resource training to safety and investment.

According to IAEA, the integrated management system is the system that provides the necessary management processes to achieve the goals of the organization of building and developing nuclear power based on safety and security standards, environmental protection, human health, standards of quality, economic factors, as well as social responsibility. Therefore, this system requires many people in different departments to join.

"The integrated management system will draw a picture of how a nuclear manager will play from the direction to how the steps are done , " said Jeannot P. Boogaard.

Dr. Tuan emphasized that the concept of true safety culture began after the Chernobyl incident in 1986, among many factors contributing to nuclear power plants, safety culture factor is one of the important factors. important, expressing awareness and commitment to safety from the highest level. Mr. Jeannot P. Boogaard added: "Normally, in large corporations, employees will always have a sense of distance from the leader, but if it is done, it will be different. When you see the problem You can go straight to the manager to make it clear, this is wrong, how it should be done ".

At the workshop, experts shared about the challenge in the Vietnam Nuclear Power Program, which emphasized the elements of infrastructure construction, human resource training, and building a legal corridor.
