Ice melting quickly raises concerns
European and American scientists are concerned that the melting of Greenland and Antarctica will make the ocean levels rise faster than expected.
Experts say the decline in ice blocks has been faster in recent years, destroying and weakening ice and glaciers, causing ice to melt faster, and increasing sea levels.
' We can see that the sea level is rising faster than forecast. This is a very serious problem , 'said Professor Peter Clark at Oregon State University.
Current projections suggest that global warming in the next one or two centuries will increase water expansion and melt faster than glaciers, first of all in Greenland.
Meanwhile, in Antarctica, the amount of ice and ice formation is also increasing, increasing sea levels by about 50cm. In about 1,000 years, the Greenland ice sheets could completely disappear and the Earth's sea level will rise by about 6m.
' This is clearer when at the ice in the west of Antarctica, many of the ground positions are below sea level ,' Clark said.
