" We will begin designing in 2016 to begin the shipbuilding process by 2018, " RIA Novosti quoted the director of Russia's United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) Roman Trotsenko today.
Mr. Trotsenko also added that the construction and assembly process will take about 5 years. Russia's first nuclear carrier will be operational in 2023. The Russian Navy currently has an aircraft carrier named Admiral Kuznetsov built in the Soviet era and completed in the early 90s.
In 2008, President Dmitry Medvedev once announced that he would build more aircraft carriers for the Russian Navy, but he did not specify what kind of energy the vessel would run.
