According to Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Corporation, it is expected that Vinasat satellite will be put into operation in the second quarter of 2008.
The project to launch Vietnam's Vinasat telecommunications satellite was approved by the Prime Minister in October 2005. Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Corporation (VNPT) is assigned to be the investor.
In the framework of the Project, on February 17, the contract to implement the 1st package "Consulting to buy Vinasat satellites" was signed between VNPT and Telesat Canada.
On February 13, 2006, the third package "Supplying satellites, launch services, satellite control station equipment" was also opened, with three bidders participating in the EADS Astrium / Alcatel Alenia Space (France). , Lockheed Martin Commercial Space Systems (USA) and Sumitomo Corporation (Japan).
According to VNPT, the first telecom satellite project implemented in Vietnam will create opportunities for Vietnam's telecommunications industry in the process of integration and development in the region and the world. At the same time, when Vinasat satellite comes into operation, it will save tens of millions of dollars each year in renting channels of foreign satellites.
