Inauguration of the most modern greenhouse and greenhouse in the South

On January 4, Ho Chi Minh City Department of Agriculture and Rural Development introduced a greenhouse, a net house, and cultivated the most modern plant cells in the southern region.

This is the most important project of the Ho Chi Minh City Biotechnology Center project.

Politburo member and Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Secretary Le Thanh Hai attended and cut the inauguration ribbon.

Greenhouse and greenhouse houses, plant cell culture including the main items are plant cell tissue culture houses, capable of producing propagation of over 2 million tissue culture seedlings per year; greenhouses capable of controlling temperature, humidity, light; Membranes allow to deploy at least 3 large-scale experiments at the same time and grow many different types; Mesh houses have the function of preserving genetic resources, experimenting, propagating flowers in pots.

This is a project to implement the process of micropropagation of plants (vegetables, flowers, ornamental plants, medicinal plants) on an industrial scale; implementing gene storage of plant varieties, conducting selection and breeding with biotechnology to create new plant varieties with outstanding properties according to the objective of resistance to pests, drought, high yield, good quality.

Greenhouse and greenhouse houses are also used to grow and test new plant varieties to assess the effectiveness and adaptability before transferring to production.

Dr. Duong Hoa Xo, Director of Ho Chi Minh City Biotechnology Center, said that the Biotechnology Center project has a total investment of about 100 million USD, built on an area of 23ha, including many Different categories aim to create a material basis for the research and application of research results in the field of plant biotechnology from the laboratory to production.

In recent years, Ho Chi Minh City Biotechnology Center has collected, preserved and multiplied more than 330 orchid varieties, including 111 Vietnam orchid varieties; sets of medicinal plant varieties with nearly 90 varieties of all kinds; research to create biological products for cultivation and fisheries.
