India recognizes dolphins as human rights

The Indian government says it respects the rights of dolphins and their use in recreational activities will be illegal.

The Indian Ministry of Environment and Forestry has asked states to ban dolphin parks and ban the use of dolphin species for recreational purposes.

"Many studies prove that the dolphins are highly intelligent and sensitive. So we should consider them as human-rights individuals," the Ministry of Environment and Forestry said.

The Indian government's ban on recreational dolphin use was issued after a protest against the construction of a dolphin park in Kerala State lasted several weeks. Indians also oppose many projects to build recreational facilities related to dolphins across the country in 2013.

Observers predict a ban on the use of dolphins and whales to entertain may lead to the Ganges dolphin movement - India's endemic animal.

"I hope the ban will promote India's Action Plan for the Dolphin River Dolphin. This plan is in effect until 2020, but now people have hardly implemented it , " Belinda Wright, a leader of the Indian Nature Protection Association, commented.

Wright added that the ban is an important step, but those who love dolphins should not be overly optimistic.

"I am not a pessimist, but I have participated in conservation activities in India for four decades. So I think the Indian ban will not improve the situation. Anyway, the dolphin will be It is a good thing not to live and perform in parks , " she commented.
