Indonesian volcano erupted, thousands of people evacuated

Gamalama volcano in Indonesia awakens, spraying ash and lava covered eastern Indonesia, leaving thousands of people to leave their homes.

According to AFP , the Gamalama volcano has been re-operated with ash columns with an altitude of over 1,700 meters in the morning of December 4. There is no information about casualties after the incident. Many people had to evacuate their homes and shelter in government temporary shelters.

Mr. Surono Kidul, chairman of Indonesia's Center for Volcanic and Mitigation, said they advised people to use poison masks, Sultan Babullah airport must be closed. The government kept the highest level of warning with the second eruption that could take place, but many people returned to their homes. The last time this volcano erupted in 2003.

Gamalama Mountain creates the appearance of Ternate Island in Northern Maluku Province. In the past centuries, at the foot of this mountain was quite fertile, the Portuguese and Dutch came and lived here. Today, the city of Ternate is the commercial center of the archipelago east of thousands of islands and famous by the nickel mining industry.
