Indonesian volcano erupted
Karangetan volcano in eastern Indonesia has erupted hot lava and high ashes in the early morning (August 20), a few hours after hundreds of villagers living on the mountainside evacuated.
There have been no reports of injuries or volcanic eruptions, Yudi Satipang, a volcanic researcher, responsible for monitoring Mount Karangetang on Siau Island since it was placed in alarming situation at the end of last week, said.
(Photo: Javno.com) " It's like a thunderbolt ," Mr. Yudi said of the explosion at the crater. According to the expert, villages, farms and trees in this 1,700 meter high mountain were covered with thick layers of ash.
Karangetang is one of the most active volcanoes. From a few days ago, the Karangetang volcano shuddered. Nearly 600 residents living in dangerous areas have run to safety, many shelter in government buildings, schools and cathedrals.
Indonesia, the world's largest archipelago, often suffers from seismic seizures due to its so-called " ring of fire " - which is composed of volcanoes and fault lines that surround the Pacific basin.
Siau, a very popular island for diving, is part of the chain of Sulawesi islands. It is located about 2,310 km northeast of Jakarta, Indonesia.
