Intel launched a campaign to promote mobile WiMAX

Next year Intel will launch a campaign to promote the development of mobile WiMAX technology. Supporting this plan of Intel is the launch of a range of support network and hardware products.

Intel announced the launch of supported network and hardware systems for the first time to enable competitive WiMAX broadband wireless standards, adding to other wireless technologies such as Wi-Fi or 3G.

Mobile WiMAX standards were developed on the IEEE 802.16e platform with theoretical connection speeds of up to 70Mbps in a radius of up to nearly 60km. However, the connection speed when actually deployed is only about 2-4Mbps.

Yesterday (August 1), two leading US mobile service providers, Sprint Nextel and Clearwire, jointly launched the first mobile WiMAX network in the US along with a project with a total capital investment. Investing up to $ 3 billion to promote WiMAX applications in a number of markets outside the US. It is expected that the network will start to provide services to customers in the first half of next year.

It is expected that in the second half of next year Intel will launch Montevina mobile chip platform capable of supporting parallel Wi-Fi and mobile WiMAX. Then about 4 to 6 months later the Montevina integrated laptop product will be available.

Intel believes that WiMAX will be more attractive to users than 3G technology by WiMAX, which will enable access to all home - office and Internet - technologies into a single mobile connection technology. Wi-Fi can only be used within a short internal range.

Analysts say WiMAX will be deployed quickly in developing markets as it is starting to build its telecommunications network infrastructure.
