Intel stopped manufacturing Pentium D
Intel has decided to stop producing four types of chips under the dual-core Pentium D 830, 840, 930 and 940 series since December 15, 2006.
The world's leading computer chip maker has officially sent a " Product Change Notification " notice of the discontinuation of production of these models to Intel's product distributors.
" The market demand for Pentium D processors has dropped and moved to other Intel products ," Intel said.
Intel will still accept the production of these products according to contracts that cannot be canceled until October 6 this year.
Intel's decision to discontinue the production of four Pentium D models is closely related to the release of the Core 2 Duo dual-core processor family - codenamed Conroe. The new chip line uses Intel's new Core microarchitecture - the micro architecture is considered to make the best dual-core chip today.
Thus, Intel's Pentium D product line will only have two products that continue to appear on the market. These are two low-end products, the 2.66GHz Pentium D 805 and the 2.8GHz Pentium D. Meanwhile, the Pentium D 9xx product line will still have 5 production models, 915, 920, 945, 950 and 960. The Pentium Extreme Edition 955 and 965 versions will also continue to be produced.
Intel has launched five Core 2 Duo models including E6300, E6400, E6600, E6700, and Extreme X6800.
