Every year, nearly half a million women worldwide are diagnosed with cervical cancer, with 270,000 deaths. About 85% of people die because of this disease belongs to developing countries. In Vietnam, there are dozens of cases diagnosed every year. The disease is the second most common type of cancer, after breast cancer.
Genital HPV virus causes most cases of cervical cancer. In which, two types 16 and 18 account for 70% of cases worldwide. Therefore, this virus vaccine helps prevent cervical cancer. This has been proven by clinical trials around the world.
With a grant of $ 27.8 million from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Path will put cervical cancer vaccines into pilot use in India, Peru, Uganda and Vietnam. These countries have been selected for their commitment to preventing cervical cancer and having effective immunization programs for children. The lessons learned from this study will be applicable to other developing countries, where cervical cancer has also developed.
