In the new study published in the journal Science, Cheuk-Yiu Ng and Davids announced the results of the world's most unique production of oxygen.
Specifically, Cheuk-Yiu Ng and his colleagues invented a machine that uses ultraviolet light in a vacuum to separate CO2. They project a high-intensity light beam into a series of CO 2 molecules, then project the laser to analyze the product.
The results were very positive. Experts estimate that about 5% of post-experimental carbon dioxide has been converted to oxygen molecules as they desire. According to Cheuk-Yiu Ng, this is the only machine that can do the same thing in the world today.
Sharing about this success, experts said: "Their research comes from the fact that everyone thinks that oxygen in the Earth's atmosphere is made from photosynthesis of green plants. The scientist believes that photosynthesis of trees has existed before the green tree appears and is the product of the ultraviolet separation of CO 2 , so this machine was created to simulate and rediscover that process ".
For years, we still think oxygen is only produced by photosynthesis of green plants .
. but perhaps some of the oxygen in it also appears before the green leaves
After the study, the experts continued to explore the specific mechanism of operation of ultraviolet light in their own experiments. Accordingly, they have yet to explain in detail how CO 2 separates into oxygen in the machine.
Two hypotheses are proposed: either CO 2 molecules split into C and O 2, or CO 2 splits into CO and O, then O atoms come into contact with each other and create oxygen molecules. In the coming time, this is the next research target of the group of experts.
With these results, Cheuk-Yiu Ng is confident to believe that his and his colleagues' machines can save the lives of all humans, especially when the amount of CO2 in the world increases and the number of trees then decline. At the same time, this machine can also be used by space astronauts, assisting them in the search for signs of life outside the universe.
The machine could become a "lifesaver" for humanity in the context of climate change like today
In the near future, can humans use this machine to build a city on the Moon?
However, a difficulty that this machine has yet to be popular, is the production of ultraviolet light to "shoot" CO2. According to Cheuk-Yiu Ng, the light is generated using accelerators 10,000 to 1,000,000 times more powerful than the current synchrotron particle accelerators in the world.
