IPTD technology to treat dioxin in Da Nang airport

With this technology, soil and mud contaminated with dioxin (also known as Agent Orange) will be transferred into abutments, where experts will raise the temperature to the point where dioxin decomposes. Then clean the soil and mud that has been heat treated.

On July 31, in Hanoi, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in Vietnam organized a Scientific Conference on "Designing 90% heat dissipation in abutments (IPTD)".

With this technology, the soil and mud contaminated with dioxin (also known as Agent Orange) will be transferred into the pits, where experts will increase the temperature to the point where dioxin decomposes. Then clean the soil and mud that has been heat treated.

The representative of the Ministry of Defense of Vietnam affirmed that the successful project on environmental remediation of dioxin at Da Nang Airport will create 29ha of clean land, used for economic and commercial purposes; losing potential risks of dioxin contamination to people around Da Nang Airport area; At the same time, marking the development of the good international cooperation between the Government and people of Vietnam and the United States, is a premise for the governments of the two countries to continue to overcome the consequences of toxic substances. surplus after the war at other hotspots in Vietnam, such as Bien Hoa Airport (Dong Nai), Phu Cat Airport (Binh Dinh).

Mr. Ralphs Baker, Project Director, Director of Technical Cooperation (Terra Them, Inc), said IPTD technology was selected based on the comparison of advantages and disadvantages with many other technologies, including targets Releases are environmental impacts and ensure safety for employees and people around them. This is the most suitable technology for Danang airport.

With the design of the environmental pollution treatment system by heat removal method, it will be used to clean up dioxin. The remediation of Agent Orange in this area is very important in the Joint Project between USAID and Vietnam's Ministry of Defense. He also said that the US committed to thoroughly implement this project to clean up Da Nang Airport.

The dioxin disposal process at Da Nang Airport will include excavated soil and contaminated mud on a total area of more than 191,400m 2 , with about 72,900m3 of land. Then the soil will be transferred in a storage structure constructed at the site and treated with heat-removal technology in the pile (IPTD) for cleaning. IPTD pile location is built in clean land with a width of about 70m, 6-8m high and 90-105m long depending on the actual excavation volume.

IPTD is an advanced technology applied in the United States, Europe and Asia to clean up hazardous waste dumps and ensure a clean environment for millions of people and for generations to come. This method has been proven to reduce dioxin storage levels to a level equal to or lower than the target set by this Project. The entire cost of the Project including items, construction, excavation and restoration of the environment after the end of the project is estimated at 43 million USD.

From June to September 2011, on the basis of the Project Implementation Agreement between the Ministry of Defense of Vietnam and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Ministry of Defense conducted clearance of bombs and mines at the airport site. Danang.

At the end of the summer of 2012, participants will construct IPTD abutment structures, make roads to the construction site, perform environmental monitoring and supervision and officially launch the project. From September to December 2012, besides maintaining the construction site during the rainy season, the contractor implemented IPTD to mobilize and import equipment for operation in 2013, it is expected that the project will be completed in 2015.
