IPv6, why deploy slowly?

According to experts, the source of address (DC) Internet version 4 (IPv4) globally is nearly exhausted and businesses can face many disadvantages if not promptly converted to new version of IPv6.

Besides, the current registration of IPv6 in the region as well as in Vietnam is easier and cheaper for IPv4 subscribers. So why is the conversion still so slow?

Enterprises are not interested

IPv4 has a 32-bit structure (32 decimal places), allowing the use of about 4 billion IP IPs. Currently, there are only about 800 million DCs in the world, while the demand for IP IP is increasing rapidly in all regions. It is estimated that only until 2011 is the source of IP power depleted, even some experts predict that this time may come sooner - around the end of 2008 - early 2009.

Talking to the press on July 19, Vietnamese and international experts in this issue said that in order to maintain and develop the Internet and services (DV) on that background, the requirement to convert to IPv6 came This has become extremely urgent. IPv6 uses a 128-bit structure, which allows the provision of large IP numbers to almost limitless levels, providing comfort for all future development needs.

Picture 1 of IPv6, why deploy slowly? According to Mr. Tran Son, in charge of the policy division of the Asia-Pacific Network Information Center (APNIC), the world has America, Japan, Korea and many European countries actively studying, IPv6 testing and deployment as well as increased services. However, in Vietnam, although IPv6 has been provided, it is still hardly used.

Mr. Tran Minh Tan - Deputy Director of VNNIC Internet Center (VNNIC), said that VNNIC has conducted extensive IPv6 addressing since 2006, but most of the service providers still only register IPv4 addresses without paying attention. to IPv6. Only VNPT registered a number of IPv6 addresses, but then returned to it, not using anything.

Meanwhile, according to Mr. Tan, the registration of IPv6 is still easier and much cheaper than IPv4. If IPv4 registration is required, enterprises must be very careful about their use needs, development plans, and only be granted according to their needs, then IPv6 is much more "open". Moreover, with the same fee, enterprises are granted many times more IPv6 addresses than IPv4 addresses. So why are businesses still not interested in IPv6?

Economic problem

In answer to the above question, experts identify the key to long-term awareness and immediate economic problem. Some enterprises said that applying for IPv4 despite being more difficult than IPv6, but still quite comfortable, where it is needed is still issued there, so it has not realized the need for IPv6. In addition, IPv6 deployment requires research, equipment investment, testing of related services, security capabilities, user training . These require no less money and time. , so businesses still hesitate.

However, according to Mr. Son, investing in IPv6 early is a wise decision that visionary enterprises should do. Firstly, the number of IPv4 engines will surely be exhausted, then businesses will not be able to expand existing services and especially cannot deploy new services. Therefore, the early investment will help businesses keep the initiative when inevitable things happen.

Secondly, early investment will help businesses to soon launch new services that require IPv6 applications in front of competitors, creating competitive advantages. For example, services such as IPTV, VoIP, Internet connection to each electronic device (refrigerator, washing machine, vacuum cleaner .) . require a huge number of IP addresses that IPv4 cannot meet. advanced, or meet poor quality (for example VoIP for voice quality, IPTV for slow and poor images .).

In addition, IPv6 will increase the quality of DV by the ability to assign each device a true IP address, instead of using a "virtual" (NAT) solution for devices in the same network today to save number of IP IP.
