Japan on October 20 announced 15 more projects to study the feasibility of the bilateral mechanism. Tokyo hopes that these mechanisms will help them get carbon emissions quotas by supporting developing countries to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through technology transfer and other measures.

These projects include a project in Vietnam to build nuclear power plants. An official from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry said that such a project could help motivate these companies to participate in the construction of Vietnam's nuclear power plants.

The official said the project in Vietnam will be undertaken by Tokyo Electric Power Company. According to the official, with the use of Japanese technology, a 1.35 million Kw nuclear power plant is expected to reduce 6 million tons of emissions each year.
