Japanese people evacuated because of the storm

More than a million people in central Japan were asked to evacuate yesterday when a massive tropical storm swept through the area, leaving two people missing.

NHK TV channel said about 1.3 million people have been recommended to evacuate, including about 80,000 people in Nagoya city. Heavy rains occurred when the storm hit dozens of areas in Nagoya and many other cities, Time reported.

Television broadcast images of Nagoya residents wading through knee-high flood waters. In some places in this city, rescue workers are helping people evacuate on rubber boats.

Police nearby Gifu said a 9-year-old boy and an 84-year-old man were missing because they fell into the river.

The Japanese Meteorological Agency said storms hit the southern coast of Shikoku Island last night with winds of up to 144 km / h. It will probably arrive in Tokyo this afternoon. A typhoon struck Japan earlier this month, killing 90 people and missing.
