Last night, Typhoon Jelawat landed on Japan's Honshu Island, forcing more than 100,000 residents on the island to evacuate. The storm also killed at least 1 person and injured 140 people.

After raging in the southern provinces of Okinawa and Kogoshima, Typhoon Jelawat moved along the western waters of Japan and reached Honshu Island in the evening through local time.

According to the latest news, the storm killed at least one person, 140 were injured, more than 100,000 people were evacuated. The storm also left 165,000 households on the island out of power and more than 350 houses damaged.

This is the 17th storm to enter this area during this rainy season. Japan Meteorological Agency said typhoon Jelawat had winds of 180km / h and was moving at 50km / h in the northeast.

As of 17:00 pm through local time, nearly 500 flights to and from western Japan were canceled.

Typhoon Jelawat also caused heavy rain, with projected rainfall in the Tokai region of 400mm and Kanto-Koshin area of ​​300mm. Meteorological agencies warned that there could be waves up to 10m high, causing landslides and floods.
