The project aims to help the Government of Vietnam devise plans and measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in accordance with Vietnam's capacity, implemented from May 2011 to February 2014.

Funding from the Government of Japan under official support is over 3 million USD.

So far, the Project has achieved the desired results of identifying, prioritizing the items needed to improve the greenhouse gas emission system and Drafting the roadmap to improve this system at Vietnam; research and organizational analysis for greenhouse gas improvement and institutional arrangement between related ministries and agencies.

The project also analyzed the data collection situation in previous greenhouse gas inspections and proposed data collection framework to calculate emissions / removals in national greenhouse gas inventories; draft UNFCCC Guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories and recommendations for Vietnam .

Ms. Takako Ono, Chief Project Advisor said that in 2012, JICA will continue to support Vietnam to carry out three main tasks including assessing the capacity of stakeholders on greenhouse gas inventories (May 4, 2012). ); research to build organizational structure system for inventory work in 2005 (12 / 2012-3 / 2013); implement quality assurance control activities (QA) for project inventory

At present, the total greenhouse gas emissions in agriculture sector is about 65,091 thousand tons of CO 2 equivalent, accounting for 43.1% of Vietnam's total greenhouse gas emissions.

The main sources of emissions are from rice cultivation and agricultural land cultivation. In addition to greenhouse gas emissions from the agricultural sector, there are many other areas.

Therefore, the project to strengthen national gas inventory capacity will help the Government of Vietnam devise plans and measures to contribute to reducing this situation.
