Lake of death in Cameroon

Unlike other volcanic lakes, underneath Lake Nyos there is a great amount of ghosts. Once a shock occurs, CO2 gas will leak into the water, forming carbonic acid. It can be said that this is one of the three lakes of death with huge amounts of toxic gas in the world.

Nyos is a crater lake off in northwestern Cameroon. Over the years, accumulated rainwater has formed this unique lake.

In August 1986, from Lake Nyos escaped a large CO 2 cloud, suffocating many people and animals in the neighborhood. Experts say this incident was caused by a landslide that released toxic gas below.

With a length of 2km, 1.2km wide, although Lake Nyos is a potential danger, but no one can deny the beauty of this lake. That is why Lake Nyos is on the list of deadly lakes, both in the list of the most beautiful volcanic lakes in the world.
