On March 28, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (TN-MT) and Thai Nguyen People's Committee officially launched the Environmental Protection Committee of Cau River Basin in Ho Chi Minh City. Thai Nguyen.

The Committee for Environmental Protection of Cau River Basin was established according to the Decision No. 174/2006 - QD / TT of the Prime Minister approving the overall scheme of protection and sustainable development of ecological environment and landscape. The mission of the Committee is to protect and restore the environment of the Cau River basin. The committee consists of 14 members, according to the decision of the Government to appoint Mr. Pham Xuan Duong - Chairman of Thai Nguyen People's Committee to be the Chairman of the first term, the Vice Chairman is the Vice Minister of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment Nguyen Cong Thanh The remaining members are the leaders of the People's Committees of the provinces of Bac Kan, Thai Nguyen, Vinh Phuc, Bac Giang, Bac Ninh and Hai Duong and representatives of the ministries.

Regarding the organizational structure, the Chairman of the Cau River Committee is the chairman of the People's Committee of one of six provinces in the basin, taking turns in alphabetical order, the first term of the Chairman of the Committee is 3 years and term of office. Next is every 2 years.

The Department of Environmental Protection said that there are now 800 establishments having discharged waste into Cau River basin without treatment, mainly from mining and ore sorting. Along with that are about 200 craft villages of all kinds mainly in Thai Nguyen, Bac Ninh and Bac Giang. Therefore, surface water in the middle and downstream areas of the Cau River basin is currently being polluted by some organic pollutants, suspended solids and grease, which are seriously polluted. .

In the past few years, the process of socio-economic development has been seriously affecting the environment of Cau River Basin, degradation and pollution in many parts of the Cau River basin has reached the level of warning. dynamic. Meanwhile, the impact of socio-economic development of storks continues to increase in the coming time.

According to Mr. Pham Xuan Duong, Chairman of Environmental Protection of Cau River Basin, the Committee will urgently build a project and establish a river basin environmental protection organization; thoroughly handle sources of pollution; strictly control the seriously polluted areas in the basin; In the immediate future, in 2008, will pass the regulations of the Committee's activities, assign work to the members of the Committee, require localities to immediately develop their own action plan.

After nearly 10 years of organization and construction, on July 28, 2006, the overall scheme of protection and sustainable development of ecological environment and landscape of Cau River basin was approved by the Decision No. 174/2006 - QD / TT.
