Lower Thu Bon River is the biosphere reserve

The UNESCO Vietnam National Committee has just asked Quang Nam province to urgently prepare a scientific file on the Thu Bon river downstream area to submit to the UNESCO a world biosphere reserve.

This area includes: Complex of Hoi An ancient urban area, Cu Lao Cham MPA and downstream Thu Bon river.

The downstream area of ​​the Thu Bon River in Quang Nam is a confluence of large and small rivers in the area connecting the majestic Truong Son range to the estuary, including De Vong, Truong Giang and Thu Bon rivers.

According to research documents of domestic and foreign scientists, the downstream area of ​​Thu Bon river is a climate and good environment for freshwater, salt water and terrestrial organisms. , proliferate and grow.

Besides, the architectural complex of the ancient town of Hoi An has been recognized by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage since 1999.

Many scientists affirmed that both the ancient urban complex of Hoi An and the downstream area of ​​Thu Bon River cannot be separated but become a unified block with the river, the earth and the convergence of conception of the ancients is a complex with many convergence such as: " Water Association, Association, Cultural Association ".

And Cu Lao Cham archipelago is confirmed by geologists: a part of tectonics extending southeast of the granite block running from Bach Ma - Hai Van - Son Tra, formed over 230 million years ago. Through the volatility of nature, granite blocks have created caves, along with the beach forming beautiful poetic scenes.

Also in this archipelago, there are nearly 5,200 hectares of water surface, of which 165 hectares are coral reefs and 500 hectares of seagrass beds; 135 species of corals belong to 35 varieties, of which 6 species were recorded for the first time in Vietnamese waters.

The scientists also identified 202 species of fish belonging to 85 genera, 36 families, 4 species of lobster and 84 species of mollusks living here, including many species in the Vietnam Red Book.

Archaeological research also shows that ancient residents lived here more than 3,000 years ago. Cu Lao Cham is also a point of the " Silk Road " on the sea in the Central Near East region with tens of thousands of artifacts and relics belonging to the Sa Huynh, Champa and Dai Viet cultural systems which were archaeologists. show.

Mr. Tran Minh Ca, Vice Chairman of Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee, said that the province is focusing on completing early documents to submit to the President of the National Committee of UNESCO for early consideration and recognition.
