Mexico: dusty volcanic eruption

During the six outings on November 30 and December 1, dust and smoke spilled from the crater of Popocatepetl (southeastern Mexico) and lifted thousands of meters in the air.

According to the Mexican Center for Disaster Forecast, although no casualties have been recorded, but ash from the Popocatepetl volcano, about 65 km from the capital Mexico City, has covered many areas, including the capital. Local authorities said the ash smoke column has been lifted 3,000 meters.

The government issued a yellow alert and sealed a 12-kilometer radius around the volcano. A few hours after sputtering, volcanic ash fell into several cities near volcanoes like Atlautla, Tepetlixpa, Amecameca and Iztacalco. The Center for Disaster Forecasting recorded five small eruptions that occurred during the previous 24 hours (November 30), of which most were only steam.

In the last 13 years, this volcano is usually active in December. Last week, a column of ash from the crater was lifted about 2,000 meters, but did not fall to the ground.
