Mexico promotes the protection of dry season forests

Chairman of the Mexican National Forest Protection Commission (CONAFOR), Mr. Jorge Rescala Pérez on April 15, announced that the government agency is cooperating with relevant ministries to develop a source protection action plan. In addition, the federal government has provided 15 helicopters, 32 large fire engines and many other specialized vehicles for forest fire prevention and fighting with the participation of thousands of soldiers and a sum of money. Investing up to $ 80 million for forest protection this year, focusing on the states of Mexico, Michoacan, Chiapas, Puebla and Hidalgo.

Official data of the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) shows that in 2012, in Mexico, more than 5,580 forest fires occurred, burning nearly 100,000 hectares of forest, increasing 2,000 cases and 29,000 hectares of damage compared to years earlier.
