The world's longest underwater cave system has just been discovered on January 23 this year in the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico. This underground cave system found by diving lovers is Steve Bogaerts, British and Robbie Schmittner, German.
Two divers discovered this system linked to two known cave systems in the area. Bogaerts commented that a Boeing 747 could slip into some rooms in the cave system. Schmittner said the two were inspired by the passion for diving and exploring places no one had ever visited.
The longest underwater cave system previously discovered is the Ox Bel Ha system, 145 km long, located in the same area. The newly discovered system is 153km long.
Bogaerts and Schmittner took 4 years to swim the full length of the system with about 500 dives with compressed air tanks, according to each successive drainage funnel.
