Mexico will not have glaciers?

The World Glacial Supervision Agency (WGMS) warns that Mexico's glaciers are at risk of "disappearing" within the next decade due to the effects of climate change.

The director of the Institute of Geophysics at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), Mr. Hugo Delgado, pointed out that if global warming continues, the glaciers and glaciers in Mexico disappear. off. This situation happened with the ice peak of Popocatepetl volcano.

According to Delgado, the freezing temperature, allowing ice to exist on the snowy peaks in volcanoes in Mexico, is about to exceed the permissible threshold and this will lead to melting of ice.

However, glaciers at an altitude of 5,570m above sea level and not encircled by industrial zones will be less affected and continue to exist for decades to come.

According to UNAM's study, one of the main reasons for the disappearance of glaciers is the decrease in water reserves.

In the dry season, glaciers will melt and replenish water for rivers, as well as aquifers. In the absence of additional water resources, water resources in cities located on the ice mountains in Mexico will be seriously affected.

Mexico is one of the countries most heavily affected by climate change. According to statistics, since 2012, Mexico has suffered over 170 natural disasters at various levels due to the hydro-meteorological phenomena, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
