Microsoft launched an operating system for old PCs
Microsoft has just released a new version of the operating system for older computers (PCs) that still exist in businesses.
By turning those PCs into thin-client workstations, Microsoft's new version of the operating system can help extend the life of older PCs.
Called " Windows Fundamentals for Legacy PCs ", the new version of the operating system is only available to Microsoft Software Assurance software maintenance and maintenance customers.
Windows Fundamentals for Legacy PCs is not a fully functional operating system version. But this operating system increases security and manageability for older systems that cannot be upgraded to Windows XP.
Windows Fundamentals for Legacy PCs is expected to officially launch later this month.
For the first time, Microsoft announced the idea of the operating system version in September last year. This is also part of Microsoft's efforts to improve Software Assurance's value.
Windows Fundamentals can only run some software directly on the system, including security tools, management tools, applications that view documents. Every enterprise production application is based on one server - that is, those software installed on a remote server, the dependent workstation will connect to that server to run the software.
According to the developer, there is an advantage that most older PC systems can still install and operate the latest security and management tools. Users will feel similar to they are using Windows XP.
Users still have a fully supported operating system.
