Microsoft patch caused Media Player trouble
The US software firm acknowledged that some updates to the music player could cause Windows Media Player 10 to fail to function properly.
Many users complain that they cannot search, fast forward and fast rewind on version 10. Playback mode also does not run even though the status bar still shows it is active. In addition, the playback slider can return to the original position abruptly.
The problem occurred after people installed one of 3 Microsoft patches. The first version fixes the "serious" vulnerability in Windows Media Player. This error can assist an attacker to control the entire system if the user deceives the file containing the malicious code. The other two versions are Update Rollup 2 for Windows XP Media Center 2005 and Windows Media Video's DirectX Video Acceleration update since 2005.
Microsoft did not disclose how many people have complained about the problem in Media Player. In addition, they announced that a patch released in February last year may also cause the ActiveX control to crash. Users can download the fix here.
