Microsoft tested YouTube 'killer'
Beginning tomorrow, Microsoft will test the Soapbox online video sharing service on MSN Video.
This is a new step for Microsoft to compete with rivals such as YouTube or Google Video.
With Microsoft's new service, users will easily upload and share their own personal videos with other users.
However, the service is currently only available on the US market and is only compatible with browser users of Internet Explorer and Fifox. To use the new Microsoft service test users need to receive an invitation from the service provider or register through the waiting list.
Microsoft has a lot of expectations on a new Soapbox feature - a feature that allows users to watch videos and search for other videos. This is a feature that even YouTube does not yet have.
Like other online video sharing services, Soapbox not only allows users to upload videos of any standard format but also allows them to categorize them to help other users search faster. .
Some of Soapbox's other features include the ability to allow users to set up RSS feeds for the types of videos they are interested in or embed videos directly into their personal blogs. In the future, Microsoft will integrate Soapbox with Windows Live Spaces to allow users to upload videos to Soapbox directly from Windows Live Spaces with a single click. Microsoft will also integrate Soapbox on a variety of different online services, Windows Live Messenger and Windows Live Mail.
Soapbox is compatible with IE 6 or newer running on Windows XP and Firefox 1.0.5 or later running on Windows XP or Macintosh OS X. Like other online services, Microsoft launches Soapbox as a collection. about profits from online advertisers.
