More than 500 species of birds in the world are extinct

Human activities have made more than 500 bird species extinct in the world over the past 500 years and there will be 10 more species of birds extinct each year if humans do not take appropriate actions to conserve.

In the study published in the Journal of the American Academy of Sciences, Stuart Pimm, professor of conservation at Duke University and one of the study authors said, without human influences, The extinction rate of birds is only about 1 species in a century.

The study also said that conservation efforts have reduced the extinction rate of about 1 bird species every 3 or 4 years, but this level of conservation is still unacceptable. Scientists also warned about 1,200 species of birds could disappear in the 21st century despite conservation efforts.
