Mount Rwenzori National Park
Unesco's Scientific, Educational and Cultural Organization has recognized Uganda's Rwenzori Mountain National Park as a World Natural Heritage in 1994.
Mount Rwenzori National Park is located in the western part of Uganda . The park includes areas: mountain areas, waterfalls, plains and lakes. The main part of the garden is the Rwenzori Mountains, the third highest mountain in Africa after Mount Kilimanjaro of Kenya and Mount Margherita. The scenery of mountains, waterfalls, plains and lakes creates a beautiful, rare sight that anyone who has ever seen must recognize. Also by owning the high and dangerous mountain peaks, the Rwenzori Mountains are also called "Mountains of the Moon ". There are many myths about the " Moon of the Moon " still circulating to this day.
The total garden area is 996 km2, of which the length is 120 km and the width is 48 km. More than 70% of the area of Mount Rwenzori National Park is located at an altitude of 2,500 meters above sea level. The main terrain is the mountain with the highest peak of 5,109 meters. Besides, two peaks Speke and Baker, the fourth and fifth highest peaks in Africa, are also located in the park. With the perfect combination of nature, high mountains, lakes and plains, it is often said that Mount Rwenzori National Park is the most beautiful place in Africa .
Mount Rwenzori National Park is also home to many endangered wildlife species . Besides the extremely rich flora, it also contributed to the national park on the list of world heritage recognized by Unesco.
With mainly mountainous terrain, the national park is divided into 5 areas of growth of different plant species varying with altitude. The fauna in the garden consists of 217 species of birds; 15 butterflies; Several dozen animals and primates including African forest elephants, Chimpanzees and mountain monkeys are rare wildlife species. Although the animal system is not much and really diverse, in return the flora of the garden is extremely rich. Plants grow in gardens, especially many large species including giant heather, giant rosette, Lobelia tree .
The Rwenzori Mountains are also home to the Bakonjo and Baamba people . These peoples have a tradition of agricultural production and cultivation. From generation to generation, they live on the slopes, extract timber for construction, fiber production, growing medicinal plants and hunting animals. Since the national park was established, hunting has been banned, although people around the region often hunt poachers in the national park area.
In the five years from 1997 to 2001, the Rwenzori Mountain National Park was occupied by Rebel forces, making conservation activities seriously affected. In 1999, due to uncontrolled burglary hunting along with deforestation, this World Natural Heritage was included in the list of endangered heritage sites . After the government regained control of the national park and chased Rebel forces out of the area in 2001. Many conservation activities were carried out to return the national environment and the diverse ecosystem of the national park. family. Thanks to that positive in 2004, Mount Rwenzori National Park was removed from the list of endangered Heritage.

Criterion (vii): The Rwenzori mountain range is also known as the " Moon of the Moon ", which is home to extremely interesting natural landscapes with high and dangerous mountains.
