The United Nations Scientific, Educational and Cultural Organization recognized the Lorentz National Park of Indonesia as a World Natural Heritage in 1999.

Lorentz National Park - World Natural Heritage in Indonesia

Lorentz National Park is one of the most biologically diverse national parks in the world , located in Papua Province, Indonesia. Garden with a total area of 25,056 km2 is the largest national park in Southeast Asia. Along with Komodo National Park, Ujung Kulon National Park and Sumatra rainforest, Lorentz National Park is recognized by the Unsesco World Natural Heritage 1999.

It is arguably the most intact conservation area in the world of the natural environment, combining both tropical marine environments, wetlands and plains. Located at the intersection of ocean currents, and a complex geological area, this area has very special biodiversity.

Lorentz National Park stretches to 150 km from the northern Irian Jaya Cordillera mountain range to the south of Arafura sea. The park is divided into two main areas, the lowlands and the high mountains. High mountain ranges are home to extremely rich vegetation and geological facilities. In these high mountains early in the morning, the clouds covered the mountains, making the landscape picturesque.

Based on the geographic and research properties of scientists, Lorentz National Park is divided into two main areas, including lowlands and mountains. In that lowland area includes beaches and mangrove forests and swamps. The mountains are divided into low mountains, middle mountains and high mountains.

Lorentz National Park's forest area is home to hundreds of species of birds and other mammals, many of which are rare species that need protection. The Tachyglossus short- billed bird and the Zaglossus long-billed bird often live in Australia and are also found here. Wetlands and mangroves are home to many types of amphibians, and rich plant species. The low mountain area is an area of less than 3.200m from the sea surface and the middle mountain is 4.170m while the high mountain is 4,585m. On the mountain area, there are mainly plants that can live on high, in addition, scientists also see the appearance of several monkeys and some species of mountain birds living here.

Over 2000 years ago, indigenous people living in this area consisted of 8 or 9 different ethnic groups. Together they created a culture that was extremely special and very developed. So far some tribes still exist and are one of the most isolated tribes in the world .
