Hereditary angioedema (HAE) is a disease that causes loss of blood proteins . For some reason, the disease causes swollen parts of the body to swell and potentially choke them.

Currently, drug manufacturers are just beginning to develop an antihistamine that can relieve pain immediately.

Linda Miller is a hereditary angioedema patient from Houston, Texas. Once a mother with a slender and beautiful body, after getting sick, Miller's face was often swollen with puffiness. She also could not tell when her face would be in case.

"Swollen glands can choke the windpipe and make you unable to breathe. They are always bulging as much as possible, because the fluid keeps coming in. When they run down to the abdomen, I am in pain to the point of being hospitalized. It was as if I was going to pull teeth without an anesthetic, and that was the worst pain I've ever had, " Miller said.

HAE is an extremely rare disease. According to US federal data, only one in every 50,000 Americans has it.

The effect of the disease on the patients is not the same - some have full body swelling, some on the face, some in the abdomen, others are in the arms and legs.

Linda said she could not know when her face would be in case.

And common anti-allergy remedies are almost useless in reducing the symptoms of hereditary angioedema.

"We always had to go to the emergency room with such symptoms, and get the same dose, but nothing changed. I mean the medicine did not relieve the disease," Miller said.
