Tomb cheats at St. Augustine
At St. Augustine, Florida, USA, an archaeologist has discovered a grave containing a donkey skeleton buried in a strange way. The animal skeleton was discovered at a depth of 1.2m underground and dating back to the 17th century. The animal has a dent in the skull and it seems to have died from being hit on the head. But the strange thing is after that.
All four limbs of the donkey are carefully disassembled and there is no sign of being cut. Meat is meticulously separated and not used for food. The four genera were then mysteriously placed on the donkey in the North-South direction. Until now people still do not know what kind of burial donkey is like. At that time the donkey was often used as a means of transporting limestone from mines to construction sites.
John Renie
John Renie was a painter in Walse who died in 1832. His tombstone is a strange structure with 19 cells in width and 15 cells in width. In each box is a letter. In the middle row, there is the line 'o J sei L ere H ere L ies J o'.
At first people only deduced the words 'Here', 'Lies' and 'John' but still not clear. Later, a local television station analyzed the tombstone and discovered it was a special crossword system. If you read from the H in the center, it will be read 'Here lies John Renie' (John Renie here) read 46,000 ways. It is rumored that John Renie has made such tombstones to deceive the devil to help his soul settle down.
Duffy cut
In June 1832, a ship carrying young Irish people arrived in Philadelphia. These people crossed the Atlantic to work for a rail contractor named Duffy. However, cholera raging in the area at the time killed 8 of them. Railway clerk Martin Clement buried their corpses in a grave surrounded by granite in 1909.
Clement then became president of Pennsylvania Railroad and saved a record called Duffy's Cut. His assistant managed this record in the 1960s and in the 2000s, two grandchildren of this assistant, Bill and Frank Watson, saw the report. Strangely, the report recorded that the death toll was 57 people!
In November 2005, the Watson brothers began excavating the tomb and found only a clay tube. By 2009, they hired a geologist to excavate and discover six more corpses with signs of being stabbed or shot. Scientists surmised that this was actually a burial ground of a massacre. The people in the grave were isolated by cholera and when they tried to escape, they were shot or stabbed to death.
Nick Beef
The Shannon Rose Memorial Cemetery in Fort Worth, Texas has a tombstone named 'Oswald'. It is the grave of Lee Harvey Oswald, who assassinated President Kennedy. By 1997, appearing a grave next to the name 'Nick Beef' raises doubts about whether this is really a murderer of the president? However, this is only a grave purchased by a man named Patric Abedin. He bought this gravestone in the 1970s for his posterity and named Nick Beef by accident rather than hiding Oswald's corpse as many speculate.
James Leeson
James Leeson died in 1794 at the age of 38. Nobody knows his identity but his tombstone is very special with an hourglass with wings symbolizing the flow of time, a burning vessel. symbolizing the immortality of the soul and a stone cutting device implying he was a mason. In addition, there was a code line surrounding the stone and no one solved it until 1889 with the meaning of "Remembering death" . He succeeded in challenging the American people for nearly a century with the message of cherishing life because we can only live once.
Betty Stiven
In Plymouth on the Caribbean island, Tobago has a cryptic grave of a woman named Betty Stiven. "In this tomb Betty Stiven and her children have rested. She is the wife of Alex B Stiven. until the day of Death brought her on November 25, 1783, when she was 23 years old, especially, she became a mother without knowing, being a wife without knowing except for the goodness for him " .
A hypothesis is that Betty is Alex Stiven's slave. He raped her at 12 years old and made her wear it. After that, she became unconscious and did not remember the fact that she had 4 children in turn. Alex did not let Betty know about her child and entrusted another female slave to breeding until Betty died at age 23 due to exhaustion.
Mysterious at Anaheim Cemetery
The Anaheim Cemetery, where California is a burial place for Chinese immigrants in the US in the late 19th century. Currently, the cemetery still exists and surrounds a redwood forest, but the interesting thing is that no one knows. Where are the bodies buried? The records noted that 33 bodies were buried here, but the wooden tombs were all corroded. Previously Chinese people were not respected in the US and they often wanted their bodies to be brought back to their hometown if they had enough costs.
Viking tomb
Archaeologists at Oxford discovered a mass grave of 34 corpses dating back to the 900s. Initially, they thought it was the graveyard of executed prisoners of the Middle Ages but did not. So, the people in the grave were brutally killed in many different ways. About 12 people were stabbed in the back, 27 were beaten to the skull and 20 were injured in the spine. Some bodies show signs of severe burns on the upper part. Most of them are between the ages of 16 and 35 and are very healthy and excellent. Bone analysis showed that they ate more seafood than ordinary people, infer that they were probably Viking warriors massacred.
A year later, another research team found a similar grave 145 km southwest that contained 54 bodies of healthy men killed brutally. Oxygen analysis in the teeth showed that they came from the North. All the men in these two tombs are believed to be victims of the massacre of St. Brice by King Aethelred on November 13, 1002. He thought that these Vikings had sabotaged the country and threatened his throne, so they had to be destroyed.
The massacre in the well
In 2013, archaeologists discovered an ancient relic in the town of Entrains-sur-Nohain in Burgundy. This place is said to be the Roman city of the Intaranum. Through excavation, people discovered traces of roads, stone houses and water wells for the rich to bathe. However, the bottom of the well discovered more than 20 bodies of non-Roman men, women and children. Through carbon analysis, they were buried around the 8th-10th century. There are 3 assumptions made about corpses. Some people claim that they die from the disease, others think that these people are victims of the nearby war. The last grisly hypothesis was that they were brutally massacred and plundered by Vikings.
The strange Saxon corpses
In 2008, British archaeologists unearthed two skeletons that were hugging each other in the town of Ramsgate. These two skeletons are buried side by side, a set is lying down, a set is lying on the side and arms are wrapped around the remaining bones. It is estimated that two skeletons date from 1066 and have a height of 1.8m, superior to that of humans at the time.
The left skeleton in the original posture is thought to be a woman. However, later analysis showed that the two bones were all men. They were supposed to be comrades who sacrificed at the time. But the mystery hasn't stopped yet.
