The image was captured by NASA's Perseverance rover, a rover rover operating in the Jezero Crater region of Mars, an ancient river delta nestled in a giant crater 45km wide.

The head of the stone snake seems to have jumped out from a large rock on the right side of the frame, preparing to attack the strange doll whose "head" is a balancing rock.

Space newspaper likened the image to a scene from the movie "Indiana Jones", like the entrance to the lair of a snake cult lurking in the wilderness that the main character will have to deal with.

The snake head is made of stone and the mysterious figure is also made of stone. The doll's "head" is most notable because it sits inexplicably balanced without rolling down atop a smooth gray stone. And it's certainly not plastered, because this is an uninhabited Mars.

NASA did not comment further on the image. This is one of many revealing landscapes that NASA's robots and probes have sent back from Mars. Last month, a structure identical to the door to the alien's house once caused a "total shock" to the public, but then scientists confirmed it was just a tantrum of natural geological processes. course.

Perseverance is the second rover-type robot NASA sent to Mars, after the famous Curiosity. Perseverance lands at Jezero Crater in 2021 with a small helicopter companion named Ingenuity.

The pair also have a mission akin to Curiosity: To study the history of Mars and find clues to life, which NASA is sure once existed but unfortunately became extinct on the red planet.
