In the search for and combining genetic resources, to influence coffee quality, the Brazilian University team and Embrapa Agricultural Research Company discovered new features.
"The team identified the protein segments (peptides) in coffee, which were previously unknown, that acted like morphine. In other words, they had mild analgesic and sedative properties." Embrapa's press release wrote.
According to RT, they called 7 new proteins called opioid peptides . Experimental results with rats showed that they had a positive difference as the duration of action lasted up to 4 hours and no side effects.
Embrapa believes that their findings have a large "biotech potential" for the health food industry. In 2004, they were successful in studying gene sequencing and improving coffee quality.
