New implants in the laboratory

Replacing the teeth that are broken by a real tooth, instead of growing dentures is possible thanks to a technique developed by Japanese researchers.

Picture 1 of New implants in the laboratory The team, led by Takashi Tsuji of the Tokyo University of Science, recreated tooth buds in the lab to produce new teeth in mice with missing teeth.

Initially the researchers increased the number of epithelial cells and mesenchymal cells that developed teeth in vitro. They then placed these cells in collagen with the same effect as cement. After a few days, they created tooth buds and implanted in the lost mouth of rats. These shoots have turned into intact teeth.

Dr. Tsuji and colleagues hope this technique can be applied in other parts and they have proven that it works for rat mustaches.
