Through this data, scientists have concluded that patients who drink at least 3 cups of coffee a day and do not smoke can reduce the risk of death. Coffee contains polyphenols that help fight inflammation and prevent enzymes that cause liver damage.
Dr. Salmon-Céron, a member of the research team, said HIV-infected patients with hepatitis C are at increased risk of heart disease, cancer, and diabetes. In addition, HIV virus will promote the development of hepatitis into cirrhosis, liver cancer.
This study emphasizes the importance of drinking coffee, not smoking, which helps patients reduce their risk of death. Dr. Salmon - Céron said that this finding confirms the effect of active lifestyle and behavior change in HIV-infected patients even without the HIV virus.
In 2013, the study of Dr. Carlo La Vecchia, University of Milan, Italy, showed that drinking 3 cups of coffee a day reduced the risk of liver cancer by 50%.
