New species named after the President of the Academy of Science and Technology

Scientists have just announced a new plant located in the core zone of Bu Gia Map National Park, Binh Phuoc, and named the chairman of the Academy of Science and Technology to place.

The new species belongs to the family Araceae and is named by Arisaema chauvanminhii . The name of the species is to recognize the great merit and support of Professor Chau Van Minh, chairman of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST), for the study of biodiversity at the Institute of Ecology. study in the south.

According to VAST, the above plants are a yearly herb. They are 20 to 50cm tall; underground stem tubers are almost spherical. The leaves of the species range from one to two. The blade is divided into three lobes. They have many secondary roots growing around the main roots. The specimen of the species has dark brown stains with the flower mouth curved backwards; The base of the moire has white spots.

The species Arisaema chauvanminhii is found in moist feralit soil, under deciduous tree forest characterized by the Largestroemia calyculata of Bu Gia Map National Park in the border area with Cambodia.

The new species was discovered during the two-year survey from June 2011 to May 2013 of the Southern Institute of Ecology and Bu Gia Map National Park.
