Water source from Hanoi to Nhue River is considered one of the biggest pollution sources. Currently, the Nhue-Day river basin has about 130,000 industrial establishments, of which 254 have wastewater directly into the river, and Hanoi also accounts for 152 industrial establishments.

Local leaders said that waste water from traditional craft villages on both sides of the river, especially in Ha Tay province is also the main source of pollution.

Through the survey of the environmental status of three types of production: food processing, dyeing, handicraft and metal processing, the food processing villages cause serious pollution, weaving villages. dyeing wastewater with a very high level of color (surface COD content up to 341 mg / l), wastewater from metal processing villages contains metal content exceeding the permitted standard by 2.5 to 9 times.

Joining hands to "save" the Nhue - Day river

Within Nhue - Day river, there are 700 industrial waste sources, trade villages, hospitals and activities.This is the main source of pollution for Nhue and Day rivers.

At the Conference, Hanoi proposed to establish an Environmental Protection Committee for Nhue and Day Rivers basins with the participation of localities, ministries and scientists . in order to plan and submit to the Government. tasks and plans to protect the Nhue - Day river basin in a concrete and clear manner.

Mr. Nguyen Quoc Trieu, Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee stressed that the protection of the water environment in the Nhue - Day river basin is difficult to do for a long time and has a coordinated and close coordination from agencies and related localities.
