Nokia Siemens successfully tested 4G networks
Nokia Siemens Networks has announced the results of new high-speed mobile technology testing that brings the 4th generation (4G) broadband mobile network dream closer to reality.
In the report, Nokia Siemens Networks reported the successful construction of a multi-user Long Term Evolution (LTE) test network in Berlin (Germany). Test using about 20MHz bandwidth on 2.6GHz frequency.
Stephan Scholz - Nokia Siemens Networks technology director - confirmed that the test showed that LTE was capable of maintaining connection speeds of up to 100Mbps within a distance of several hundred meters. LTE network platform requirements are almost similar to 3GPP technology standards. This is evidence that LTE can be widely used.
' The experiment has provided enough evidence that future LTE mobile networks can fully operate on existing relay stations. Mobile network management providers can easily deploy LTE applications without having to build new antenna stations , 'said Matthias Reiss - Nokia Siemens Networks CEO.
LTE is a mobile technology that has the potential to become the next 3G technology. The theoretical connection speed of LTE can be up to 173Mbps.
If connection speeds like that are achieved, LTE can completely beat mobile WiMAX in the race to dominate the market because WiMAX can only reach a maximum connection speed of 70Mbps. HSDPA - the highest-speed broadband mobile network today - only reaches a maximum speed of 7.2Mbps.
