Officially recognized the reserve of the night sky

The NamibRand nature reserve in southern Namibia has just been officially recognized as a night sky reserve - the most suitable spot to see the stars from the earth.

The park stretches over an area of ​​more than 1,500 km ² in the country of southern Africa as the best night sky observation place, the International Dark-Sky Association - the certification body of the ' Starlight conservation area ' around the world, just announced.

NamibRand park employees try to adjust the lighting pattern on the ground so that it can preserve the natural dark color of the sky here, for the benefit of nature and visitors to observe.

'Watching the original night sky from NamibRand Park is truly an unforgettable experience ,' said George Tucker, retired professor of physics and the first to discover and uniqueness of NamibRand Park.

The closest residential communities to the park are also 97km away, helping to maintain the vast darkness for the Milky Way galaxy to be visible in the sky without light pollution.

The local environmental education Namib Desert Environmental Education Trust (NaDEET) is working to spread knowledge to visitors about astronomy and the importance of preserving the pristine sky. Others overnight, including local students, can sleep at the 'thousand-star hotel' in the education center located in the park.
