Painful experiment

It takes a lot of courage to turn yourself into a "hamster" on behalf of science, and recently a volunteer has been bitten many times to find the most painful point in the body.

Throughout the history of science from the past to the present, not everyone dares to take themselves into dangerous experiments. Benjamin Franklin, one of the "old father of America" , was struck by lightning when flying a kite during a storm in 1752 to prove lightning carrying charge. Baron Humphry Davy of England when he was an apprentice pharmacist discovered how to modulate the laughing gas and turned it into an effective anesthetic. Meanwhile, scientist Albert Hofmann (Switzerland), who inhaled the drug that caused extreme hallucinations, was LSD in an effort to prepare new drugs.

Recently, Michael Smith of Cornell University (USA) used his body and spent weeks of pain just to answer a question: Where is the most painful bee sting? The report, published on the PeerJ Journal, can provide new knowledge about the sensitivity of the human body to the painfully general effects. Smith, who is currently studying honeycomb, said the idea came after a discussion with a professor about career-related hazards. 'We think that if a bee stings in the testicles, it must be very painful. Two days later, I was stung by the bee in the right place, but it turned out not to be as painful as I imagined , ' said Smith.

And so the new science project was launched. After selecting 25 points on the body, Smith used the honey bee to contact the skin until the new animal was fresh, and left the needle in place for 1 minute. Every day Smith gave bees 5 times, and lasted for 38 days. The results are not the same as expected. He divided his pain experience from a scale of 0 to 10, such as a bee stinging his arm causing pain at level 5. The testicles turned out to be the 4th most painful point, at 7 points, equivalent to a bee burn on cheeks, palms and underarms. The most painful place is the nostril (9 points), followed by the upper lip (8.7) and the genitals 3rd (7.3). The least painful point is the scalp, middle toe, upper arm, all at 2.3 points.

Although he was bitten by the bee regularly during the experiment, Smith admitted that it was unbearable to have the bee stung in the nose for the third time. 'I really don't want to be burned there. Your body will react violently when being stung by a bee, sneezing, wheezing, watery eyes , ' the American graduate student recalls. After concluding that the human body has different sensitivities in each part, Smith said that the bees generally do not tend to aggressively attack people. If you are followed by a bee, don't panic, keep calm and don't let the breath disturb, because bees are often attracted to CO 2 . Everybody walks normally, everyone is fine. Only hornets are exceptions and should be careful.
