People with arthritis should go barefoot
(Photos: imagesource) People with chronic knee arthritis should remove shoes whenever possible. A new study showed that shoe walking increased pressure on the knees and hip joints, making the disease worse.
In chronic knee arthritis, if the patient is unusually heavy on the knee, there is a high risk of injury and disease development, the team at the Rush Medical University in Chicago (USA), said.
The researchers evaluated the impact of modern shoes on gait and joint in 75 patients with chronic knee arthritis. Their average age is 59, the average body mass index (BMI) is 28.4 on average, and 59 of them are women.
The analysis is done when the subject wears shoes daily and when they go barefoot. The results showed that barefoot significantly reduced the amount of kinetic weight on the knees and hips. This proves that modern shoes can exacerbate the disease.
