Preparing to respond to tsunami in Da Nang

The 6m high tsunami pouring into Da Nang is the scenario expected to respond to disaster prepared by the Steering Committee of ST-11 in Da Nang at the afternoon of August 3.

It is expected that nearly 3,000 people participate in rehearsals, of which more than 2,100 police and soldiers. Rehearsal area in Tho Quang and Man Thai wards (Son Tra district).

According to the scenario, on October 7, tsunamis appeared in the waters of the western Philippines with an intensity of 8.6-8.8 degrees richter. After 3 hours, tsunamis spread to Danang with a height of 5-6 m.

Some coastal areas of Danang are flooded by tsunamis, which flooded 2-3 m. Houses, trees collapsed, chaotic traffic, boats, fishermen, tourists in distress at sea and shore need emergency rescue .

Immediately after receiving signals of tsunami warning, watch stations have handled and transmitted warning data, the steering committee organized evacuation, search and rescue and tsunami response. A series of ships, helicopters, special-use cars are dispatched to rescue and evacuate people to a safe place.

According to calculations by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, if a magnitude 8.3 earthquake occurs in the Manila deep water trench area (Philippines), it could create a 6.2-meter high tsunami in Quang Ngai. and 2.1 meters in Nha Trang. The magnitude of the magnitude 9.2 earthquake in the same area could create a tsunami of 10.6 meters high in Quang Ngai and 5 meters in Nha Trang. The time of tsunami traveling from the Manila deep water trench to the coast of Vietnam is only about 2 hours.

On March 11, a 9-magnitude quake triggered a 10-meter high tsunami into northeastern Japan, killing 25,000 people and missing. After that, a series of earthquakes and aftershocks were recorded in Asia, like Myanmar, the Philippines, and Taiwan. Vietnam also felt vibration after the 7-magnitude earthquake in Myanmar on March 24.
