Proposal to kill red-eared turtle of Sword Lake with net

Hanoi Department of Science and Technology proposed using cages or nets to catch red-eared turtles at Sword Lake in order to rescue ancient turtles.

Earlier, Hanoi People's Committee asked related agencies to propose solutions to limit red-eared turtles to save ancient turtles. After the appearance of the image of the red-eared turtle sitting on the back of the Sword Lake Turtle, some scientists warned about the risk of neck turtles being chewed, or overwhelmed by its familiar habitat.

According to the aforementioned solutions, the first way is to place the cage under the water, use the food to lure the red-eared tortoise into the cage and then pick it up.

The second way is to use floating rafts with lure leads and nets. Red-eared turtles love sunshine so they can climb rafts. When they are up, the turtle catcher will shake the turtle to the net below.

' Which cages, nets, traps, which kind of bait, how much, what position to put is needed to study ', said Le Xuan Rao, director of Hanoi Department of Science and Technology more on the market there are Chinese and Japanese nets.

According to Mr. Rao, the above two solutions do not affect the precious turtles and aquatic fauna of Sword Lake, ensuring aesthetics and ease of operation. The authorities will also explore the possible breeding grounds for turtles to eradicate.

Other methods such as stowing and using darts should not be applied at Hoan Kiem Lake, Mr. Rao said.

Before killing red-eared turtle in Sword Lake, authorities will test two solutions on a certain lake in Hanoi. Mr. Rao said that it is necessary to continue measures to mobilize people not to drop red ear turtles into the lake.
