Protein discovered to prevent stomach cancer from spreading
Scientists at the Korean Catholic University on June 17 said they have discovered a natural protein that can prevent the development of stomach cancer cells.
This finding may help bring a new treatment to the disease, which is considered difficult to treat. The group of pathology scientists headed by Professor Park Sang-won said they had successfully tested the protein called Gastrokine 1 (GKN1) in blocking the cells of tumors in stomach development.
Korean scientists took 40 samples of cells from patients with tumors in the stomach to conduct experiments. Results showed a link between the amount of GKN1 produced in the stomach and the growth of tumors.
Professor Park said: ' Through observation, a large number of these proteins have been involved in preventing cancer cells from growing. At the same time, the experiments also showed a significant decline in GKN1 in the early stages of stomach cancer. '
Because GKN1 is a natural protein, studying how the human body can produce this protein will help control the growth of cancer cells without causing side effects.
Professor Park also added that the test results in the protein in the stomach can also help doctors quickly get accurate diagnosis of cancer right from the start. In addition, this scientific advance can provide many opportunities for the successful treatment of this lethal stomach cancer.
