Pull out five major storms from the list

The International Committee of the World Meteorological Organization decided to withdraw the five most devastating cyclones in 2005 in order to respect the victims who died in the storm.

The decision was made during the organization's annual meeting in San Juan (Puerto Rico).

Five names for storms Dennis, Katrina, Rita, Stan and Wilma were placed for five of the 27 tropical storms and 15 tornadoes swept across the Atlantic coast in 2005. These names will no longer be available. used again, to respect victims who died in these storms and create a separation in scientific and legal communities.

Typically, the names used to name the storms will be reused within the six-year term. Under the new decision, five stormy names Dennis, Katrina, Rita, Stan and Wilma will be replaced by Don, Katia, Rina, Sean et Whitney in 2011.

Since 1953, the year when meteorologists decided to name tropical storms, there are now 67 names removed from the list. The first drawn storms were Carol and Hazel, in 1954. The year 2005 became the record-breaking year of the storm only in a single rainy season.

Beginning January 1, 2006, names given to swirling storms will be sequentially: Alberto, Beryl, Chris, Debby, Ernesto, Florence, Gordon, Helene, Isaac, Joyce, Kirk, Leslie, Michael, Nadine , Oscar, Patty, Rafael, Sandy, Tony, Valerie and William. On this list, Kirk replaced Keith, drawn in 2000 after the storm raged and caused heavy damage to Mexico and Belize.
